U.S. Stocks Are Little Changed as Finance Ministers Meet


U.S. stocks were little changed, with the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index poised for a third straight week of gains, as investors weighed the pace of central bank stimulus amid a meeting of finance ministers. Gap Inc. added 6.1 percent after forecasting first-quarter profit that topped estimates. Nvidia Corp. rose 3.3 percent as fiscal first-quarter sales and earnings exceeded projections. Molycorp Inc. jumped 19 percent after posting a narrower-than-estimated loss. Hess Corp. sank 2.6 percent after saying it will strip its chief executive officer of the chairmanship. Energy stocks posted the biggest declines out of 10 S&P 500 groups . The S&P 500 fell 0.1 percent to 1,625.58 at 10:39 a.m. in New York. The equity benchmark rallied to a record on five consecutive trading days starting on May 2, and is heading for a weekly gain of 0.7 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 23.92 points, or 0.2 percent, to 15,058.70 today. Trading of S&P 500 stocks was 5.2 percent below the 30-day average at this time of day.



“People are seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” Larry Kantor , the New York-based head of research at Barclays Plc, said in a radio interview on “Bloomberg Surveillance” with Tom Keene. “We would not be surprised to see a correction but we would be a buyers on dips because of the tremendous monetary policy and the fact that the economy is growing.” Group of Seven finance ministers start a two-day meeting in Aylesbury, north of London, today.
